Our History

Broadway Colonial Funeral Home was started in July of 1912, in the 100 block of west 6th street. In 1948, a two story duplex was purchased and remodeled into the present-day funeral home. Numerous changes have been made over the years to better serve the public. Some of those changes include bringing the casket selection room down to the first level, and opening up the foyer, building a ramp and adding additional parking.

The history of the funeral home started as this:

Duff and Sons 1850-1920's (due to a fire, some records were destroyed)
Sprinkler July 11, 1912-1945
Maag Morris January 8, 1939
Morris June 8, 1939
Morris Draper May 7, 1945
Draper 1945-1970
Draper Cannon 1970-1992
Broadway Colonial Funeral Home 1992- present

In December of 1992,the name of the funeral home was changed to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, reflecting the name of the street where the business is now located and the style of the home.

In July 2012, the firm celebrated our 100th year of serving Newton and surrounding communities. We are honored to have been in this community and providing excellent and affordable services for families.

We take pride in our commitment to the community, with personal care to our families requests, personal needs, religious preferences and cultural values.
