William Heffentrager

July 23, 1925 — June 3, 2016

William Eugene Heffentrager, 90, died Friday (June 3, 2016) at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

He was born on July 23, 1925 in Sacketts Harbor, N.Y., the son of George H. and Sarah E. Booth Heffentrager. Bill had served as a Sgt in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War.

Bill married Hazel Victoria McClure on September 8, 1946 in Pasadena, Calif.

He had been a Food Product Merchandiser for many years in California until he and Hazel moved to Newton in the mid 1970’s where he continued working.

A few years after the death of Hazel, Bill married Loretta May Ford Lies on February 21, 1996 in Newton. She died on February 4, 2015.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Newton and the American Legion. Bill traveled throughout the world as a Missionary for the church.

Survivors include step-daughter Charlene Vinduska of Wichita; step-sons Mike Lies of Oakley, Ks., Vernon Lies of Jonesboro, Ark., David Lies of Albert, Ks., and Raymond Lies of Newton; 18 step-grandchildren; 26 step-great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Bill is preceded in death also by his mother and step-father Sarah and Wilson Pernice; father and step-mother George and Bertha Heffentrager; brothers George and John Heffentrager

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday (June 7, 2016) at the First Christian Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday between 1:00pm and 8:00pm.

A memorial has been established with the Legacy of John at the Kansas Christian Home, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
