William Seeney

April 13, 1950 — January 31, 2024

William E. “Bill” Seeney, 73, of Bel Aire, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire, Kansas. He was born April 13, 1950, in Newton, Kansas to Raymond E. and Florence Maurine (Hawk) Seeney.

On September 27, 1968 he married Jane A. Hershberger. They had five children, Donald W. Seeney, Mark W. Seeney, Crystal C. McGrew, Ginger G. Seeney and Michael L. Seeney.

Bill grew up in Newton and attended Newton High School. He worked for 45 years at Cargill Flour Mill in Newton as a lead man before retiring. He started work there at nineteen following in his dad and grandads’ footsteps. Over the years Bill found joy in family, skating, gardening, fishing, estate sales and was an avid Casino goer. He never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with all he met.

Other survivors include his longtime companion, Janet Johnston, whom he was with until the end; her two son’s Seth Johnston and Mitchell Johnston; one brother, Alan Seeney; two sisters, Barbara Weaver and Beverly Harris; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, James F. Seeney and Michael B. Seeney.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 5-9 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home with the family greeting visitors from 6-8 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2024 at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Elbing, Kansas.

Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Memorials are suggested to Caring Hands Humane Society and St Jude’s Research, and may be sent to or left with the funeral home.
