Wayne Leroy Stucky

Wayne LeRoy Stucky was born on August 11, 1933, to John R. and Cora (Schrag) Stucky, on the family farm near Elyria, Kansas. He passed away on August 28, 2026, at Kidron Bethel Village, in North Newton, Kansas, at the age of 93.

Wayne was a 1951 graduate of Moundridge High School. After high school, legend has it he bought a Harley Davidson and went to Florida where he spent time working on a cabbage farm. He then went to Ypsilanti, Michigan where he worked in a mental hospital with the 1-W Program. When he finished his 1-W service, he moved back to Kansas where, on a blind date, he met Sharon Wiebe, a Bethel College student from Aberdeen, Idaho.

Wayne and Sharon were married in Aberdeen on August 3, 1958. They made their first home as a married couple in North Newton where they lived for several years before moving back to Idaho where Wayne enjoyed many outdoor sports including snow skiing, golf, fishing, golf, camping, golf, hunting, and golf. When Wayne and Sharon first moved to Aberdeen, he initially worked with his father-in-law in the Wiebe family clothing store, The Villager. However, his talent for carpentry led him to leave the retail clothing business and hone his skills as a builder and finish carpenter, which he did for over 25 years before retiring.

After their retirement in 1997, Wayne and Sharon moved back to North Newton where they built a home and enjoyed reuniting with family and college friends who also lived in the area. During this period of his retirement, Wayne enjoyed early morning and afternoon coffee with friends, dinners with friends, bird watching, and, of course, golf. He was a loyal fan of Bethel College sports, attending many football, basketball, and volleyball games. Wayne volunteered often at Bethel College and contributed many hours helping to develop the Sand Creek Nature Trail.

His survivors include his daughter, Melanie Stucky (Nathan Hart) of Oklahoma City; son, John Stucky (Rick Shenkman) of Seattle, Washington; granddaughters, Lily Hart and Sydney Hart of Oklahoma City; sisters, Neva Kaufman of Moundridge, Kansas, Marlene Unruh, of McPherson, Kansas, Judy Krehbiel of Berryton, Kansas, and brother, Ken Stucky, of Moundridge, Kansas.

He is preceded in death by Sharon, and sisters Vera Thiesen and Betty Stucky.

His quick wit and ready smile will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation for all the love and kindness shown to Wayne during his time at Kidron Bethel Village, and especially to the many who cared for him.

Memorial Service will be held in Kidron Hall at Kidron Bethel Village, on Friday, September 18, at 2:00 pm, with light refreshments and conversation following.

Memorial gifts may be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) or Bethel College.
