Wanda Geraldine (Jerri) Hampton, 89 of Newton, Kansas, passed away Monday September 2, 2024 at Presbyterian Manor in Newton, Kansas. She was born on June 23, 1935 in Centralia, Oklahoma, to Hank and Alma King. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Newton, Kansas. Jerri was united in marriage to James (Jim) Hampton on June 11, 1988 in Newton, Kansas. They shared 32 years of marriage before his passing.
Jerri would be best known for working at and then purchasing the Chuck House Restaurant in Newton, Kansas where her employees became part of her family and her customers became her friends. She was an avid golfer, spending her retirement years on the golf course with her husband and friends. She also enjoyed trips with her husband on their Gold Wing motorcycle. Jerri is survived by her 3 children. Diane Johnson of Derby, Kansas, David Bartmess (Pennie), and Pamela Nellans, (James) of Newton, Kansas. Step children, David Hampton, Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Gail Robinson, Towanda, Kansas, and Dana Hampton, Topeka, Kansas, brother Jim King, Garfield, Arkansas, 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law Greg Johnson; grandchild Greg Inghram; sisters, Wilma Renfro; Majorie Holmes; brothers; Bill King, Gene King, and Jack King.
Visitation will be Friday September 13, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 East Broadway Newton, Kansas 67114. Graveside Services will be held Saturday September 14, 2024 10:00 a.m. at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Prairie Lawn Road, Peabody, Kansas. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
