Veta Ellen Simpson

Veta Ellen (Burns) Simpson was born June 14, 1952, to Doris Odetta (Welch) Burns and Armand
Allison Burns in Meade, Kansas. She grew up in Alden, Kansas and graduated from Sterling High School
in 1970.

Veta met her husband William "Bill" Walter Simpson by pen pal during the Vietnam War. They
continued to date and write letters to each other. On September 22, 1973, Veta married her hero and
the love of her life Bill in Alden, Kansas.

Veta and Bill made a life in Newton, Kansas where they had three daughters and she made a career
of being a Dietary Manager for over 40 years. After she retired, she spent a year as a Bus Aide for the
school district. She loved her family dearly and you could see her cheering on her grandkids at their
sporting events such as football games, wrestling matches, baseball and soccer games. She also enjoyed
watching her grandkids show their 4H animals at the fairs.

Veta passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Paramount Greenhouse in Newton, Kansas. She
was survived by her hero and love of her life Bill Simpson of Newton, Kansas; daughter and son in law,
Wendy & Travis Basye of Newton, Kansas; daughter and son in law, Megan & Mitch Wendt of
Hutchinson, Kansas; daughter and son in law, Elisha & Marlon Blount of Newton, Kansas. Six
grandchildren; Kyle & Troy Basye; Amara & Amelia Wendt; William & Marlon "Junior" Blount.

Veta was preceded in death by her parents Armand & Doris Burns, her father in law Joseph "Joe"
Simpson, her three sisters; Shelia Szelenyi, Martha Dixon, Debbie Burns, her brother Jimmy "Jim" Burns
and two grandchildren Elouise "Ellie" & Ethan Wendt.

A "Celebration of Life" for Veta will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Salem
United Methodist Church.
