Vernetta Funk

Vernetta (Reimer) Funk, 87, of Goessel, KS went to her eternal home on Thursday, December 16, 2021. 

She was born in Goessel on February 24, 1934 to Herman C. and Helen (Funk) Reimer.  She attended and graduated from Goessel area schools.  On November 27, 1952, she married Roland D. Funk at Goessel Mennonite Church.  They immediately went to 1-W service in Denver, CO where their first son, Rodney, was born.  After returning to the Goessel area, two more sons were born, Bruce and Clifton.   Roland and Vernetta farmed and ran an egg business, and in 1970 purchased Mid-Kansas Propane, Newton, KS.  Vernetta was an integral part of the business, doing the books until the business was sold in 1997.   She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, quilting, and was involved in her church. 

Vernetta and Roland moved into Bethesda Home in Goessel in June of 2013, where she resided until her death. 

She is survived by her sons Bruce (Nancy) of North Newton, and Clifton (Susan) of rural Hutchinson, five grandchildren, Michael (Sara) Funk, Gina (Adam) Dreher, Rachel Funk, Hannah Funk, and Faith Funk, and six great grandchildren. 

She was predeceased by her parents Herman and Helen Reimer, stepmother Ruby (Schrag) Reimer, husband, Roland, and son Rodney.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 2 pm at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, followed by inurnment at Restlawn Cemetery of rural Newton. 

Memorial gifts can be made to the Kansas State University Marching Band's "Rod Funk Memorial Scholarship Fund" or to Bethesda Home. Contributions may be sent Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
