Stephen John Adkins, 74, died Sunday (December 20, 2015) at the Newton Medical Center.
He was born on December 4, 1941 in San Diego, California. During the Viet Nam Conflict he served in the U. S. Air Force. Stephen received a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the National University in San Diego.
Stephen served on the police department in Riverside, California. He later worked as a security guard at the Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in San Diego where he met Barbara Morrison Polyniak. They were married on April 27, 1980 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Stephen and Barbara moved to Santee, California and later to Wanatah, Indiana before moving to Newton in the 1990’s.
He is survived by a step-son, Major Paul M. Polyniak of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Stephen is preceded in death by his parents; wife Barbara on September 26, 2004; and his in-law’s Francis and Ruby Morrison.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday (December 28, 2015) at the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
