Shirley Ann Grunder

Shirley Ann Grunder of Sedgwick, KS went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2026. She was born in St. John, KS on May 12, 1935, to Ernest and Garnett Grunder. She grew up in the St. John/ Byers, KS Community. She attended nursing school in Wichita upon graduating from Byers High School in Byers, KS. She was a member of the Glendale United Methodist Church. She loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time in her yard decorating and tending to her garden and landscape.

She was known for attending all her grand and great grandchildren’s school and sporting events, she never missed one. She also enjoyed and loved her family deeply. She was known for holding extravagant family gatherings at her home. She married Walter C. Hillard and they resided in rural Pratt, KS where they farmed and had a large dairy with their two children.

Shirley is survived by her two children, Kay Bright and Je Hillard. Five grandchildren, Kyle Hillard (Chelcie), Katie Nordick (Kyle), Carrie Dahl (Peyton), Kelli Laurinec (Adam), and Kimberly Graves (Addason). Nine great grandchildren, Karsyn, Carter, Camdyn, and Kashly Nordick, Brooks Dahl, Adalli and Kellam Laurinec, Medley Bible, and Kruze Hillard.
