Sandra Harms

December 2, 1964 — November 8, 2021

Sandra “Sandy” Lindell Harms, 56, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Monday, November 8, 2021, after a short, hard-fought battle with cancer.

Sandy was born December 2, 1964, in Jacksonville, Illinois to Dr. Vernon and Carolyn (Bunting) Lindell.  She married Lonnie Harms on April 23, 1988, and he survives.

Growing up in Jacksonville, Illinois, she was active in 4-H showing horses and beef cattle.  She graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1983 and attended Western Illinois University, graduating in 1988 with a bachelor’s in business administration.  She furthered her education at Washburn University and earned her Juris Doctorate in 1992.  Sandy went on to practice law for ten years, but as her and Lonnie welcomed children, she decided to stay home and raise her family.  She found a true passion for helping kids, and she went back to school once more to earn a degree in social studies education with an endorsement in special education.  For five years, she helped numerous students overcome tremendous adversity, as she was a guiding light for all the young lives that she touched.  She enjoyed shopping, spending time with her children and grandchildren (who affectionately referred to her as Nonnie), and volunteering for the Southwest Iowa chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness.

She is survived by her husband, Lonnie; three sons and one daughter, Luke (Amy Carroll) Lindell, Isaiah (Kelsey) Harms, Sarah (Aron) Beatty, and Noah (Chris) Harms; seven grandchildren, Dylann Hayes, Kashton Lindell, Ben and Rachel “Liz” Harms, and Shiloh, Elijah, and Jonah Beatty; her father and step-mother, Dr. Vernon Lindell and Roberta; three brothers, Dr. Larry (Gayle) Lindell, Mike (Trish) Lindell, and Garrett (Jodi) Lindell; two sisters, Linda (Eric) Brown and Vicki (Mark) Robertson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her mother, Carolyn.
