Ronald Dean Hargett

August 14, 1937 — November 7, 2023

Manhattan, Kansas

Ronald Dean Hargett peacefully departed this life on November 7, 2023, in Manhattan, Kansas.

Ron was born on August 14, 1937, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Ivan and Helen Irene Dean Hargett. Ron graduated from high school in 1955 and Eastern New Mexico University four years later in 1959. Ron moved to Kansas City to pursue a masters in divinity at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he also met Orva Irene Yutzy, a nursing student. The young couple was married in Mission, Kansas on May 24, 1963. Ron later graduated from seminary and served as pastor, early in their marriage, to the Mennonite Church in La Jara, Colorado.

A life-long interest in the Divine later led Ron and Orva to join the Roman Catholic Church in 1997. In retirement they enjoyed pilgrimages with the Catholic Diocese of Wichita to the Vatican and the Holy Land. They also made annual visits to La Mesa de la Piedad y de la Misericordia in San Luis, Colorado. Together they shared 51 years of marriage, three sons and their families: Dean Alan and wife Bridget Murphy, their children Samuel and Nora; Kirk Vincent and wife Rhonna (Williams), their children, Jess and Isaac; Craig Hargett and wife Jackie Parker, and their child Emma.

Ron was preceded in death by his father and mother. His beloved partner, Orva, passed away in 2014.

Friends and family are invited to gather and find solace with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday November 28, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Newton, Kansas followed by The Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Newton.
