Rod Taft, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with gastric cancer. He was 58 years old.
Born on January 30, 1968, in Wichita, Rod spent much of his childhood helping his father care for greyhounds and hunt coyotes. As the oldest sibling, Rod naturally stepped into the role of protector and caretaker, first welcoming his brother, Brad Taft, and later his sister, Robi Taft Sharp. He could often be found helping care for his siblings and younger cousins, showing from an early age the kindness and responsibility that would define his life.
At the age of 14, Rod discovered a talent for welding, a skill and passion he continued to pursue throughout his life. He was incredibly creative and had the rare ability to build or create almost anything he set his mind to. His hands were gifted, but even more remarkable was the heart behind everything he made.
Rod was the proud father of three beautiful children — Brittny, MacKinzie, and Tanner — who grew into amazing adults and remained a constant source of pride and joy in his life.
In 2019, Rod met the love of his life and soulmate. By May of 2020, they were married and began building a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure together. Though illness eventually slowed them down, it never diminished the love they shared. Their days were spent cherishing family, making memories, and loving one another deeply.
Rod was loved by many because he loved deeply in return. He was one of the most caring and gentlemen those around him had the privilege of knowing. To his wife, he was not only a husband, but her soulmate, best friend, and partner in crime — her “one.”
Rod’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
