Rita Ellen Schlagowsky passed away, January 27, 2019 in Newton, KS.

She was born April 16, 1928 in Newton, KS to Andrew and Emma Schlagowsky. She was a lifelong Newton resident.

She attended Candy School in rural Harvey County and graduated from Newton High School. After graduation she went to work for Regier Loan & Abstract, where she worked as secretary for 47 years, retiring in 1993. After retirement, she enjoyed travel, family and working on her farm.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society. She was a longtime member of Business and Professional Women, where she served in many officer roles including President. She was also a member of Soroptimist Club of Newton.

She is survived by a sister, Alice TenEyck, two nieces, one nephew and two great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Erna (Melvin) O’Keefe, Doris (Lester) Frazey, and brother-in-law George TenEyck.

The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M., on Thursday (January 31, 2019) at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday (February 1, 2019) at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newton.

The casket will be open at the funeral home after 1:00 P.M. on Thursday.

Memorials in lieu of flowers suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Presbyterian Manor Employees Christmas Fund. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.

Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
