Richard S. Lujano

Richard Steven Lujano, 64, died Tuesday (November 26, 2013) at his home in Newton.

He was born on July 9, 1949 in Newton, Ks., the son of Billie Sifeuntez and Hope Marquez Lujano. He attended local schools, graduating from Newton High School in 1967.

Richard enlisted on March 24, 1969 in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Conflict. After being discharged Richard returned to Newton. He had worked for the Hesston/Agco Corporation for 40 years.

Richard was a very dedicated member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where he had been active in Youth Ministry and was a member of the Perpetual Adoration for 24 years serving as a coordinator for four years. He had been a long time member of the V.F.W. , served as President of the Newton Fiesta Committee in 1994. Richard also had been President of the Mexican-American Softball Tournament, and was active in re-establishing Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church softball diamond properties.

Survivors include his mother, Hope of the home in Newton; brothers Louis W. Lujano, Sr. of Peoria, Az., and Robert J. Lujano, Sr. of Grand Prairie, Tx.; and sister Mary E. Navarro of Newton.

Richard is preceded in death by his father, Billie; and brothers Carlos Rosalio Lujano and William David Lujano.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, (Dec. 3, 2013).

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday (Dec. 4, 2013) both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

The viewing will be held at the church after 1pm on Tuesday.
