Rebecca Romero, 84, died Sunday (June 8, 2014) at Asbury Park in Newton.

She was born on July 19, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Ramon and Maria Partida Ayala. She was raised in Omaha along with her two brothers John and Raymond.

Rebecca married Theodore Romero on January 30, 1946 in Omaha, to which eight children were born. He died on March 25, 1994. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished and revered her family.

Rebecca began a small business from her home and was well known for her exceptional cooking. She was a wonderful hostess who made everyone who entered her home feel welcome and loved. Rebecca was a long standing member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church along with being a member of the Red Hat Society.

Survivors include her sons Theodore Romero of Conover, N.C., Ronald Romero, Manuel Romero, and Alonzo Romero all of Newton; daughters Linda Maricle and Rosemary Dunbar both of Wichita, Mary Romero of Los Angeles, Calif., and Juanita Vollnogel of Hutchinson, Ks.; one brother John Ayala of Omaha; 25 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Rebecca is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother Raymond.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 6:30 P.M., Thursday (June 12, 2014) and the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 A.M., Friday (June 13, 2014) both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday 1pm til 8pm and on Thursday 9am til 5pm.
