Michael “Mike” Wayne Foster, age 74, of Newton, passed away on June 27, 2024 at NMC Health in Newton. Michael was born October 24, 1949 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Homer and Cecelia (Turner) Foster.
For anyone that knew Mike, knew that he had one of the orneriest sense of humors and his joy was contagious to those around him. Quick with a smile and comeback when needed, Mike kept all who loved him on their toes. Remembered by many as one of the original Northview residents, Mike was a big presence in the community that may of us hold dear in our hearts. He was a lover of westerns, his faith, Johnny Cash, football (go Cowboys!) and coffee- especially those fancy ones. Mike found the best in life and spread joy to those who knew him. Some of his most favorite things were his summers at Family Holy Camp, the fishing derby, parties held at Northview, birthday parties for his nieces and nephews, and the proms held by Night to Shine. Mike also had a strong faith, attending many Masses at Our Lady of Guadalupe sitting in the front row pew and singing along to all the songs.
Mike is survived by a number of people who loved and cared for him. His crew at Duncan house who over the years became family. His friends at Northview/ResCare that he made during his time in his residential and day programs. The friends he made with staff during his time at Northview/ResCare. His team of advocates throughout the years and for many of the last years Bren Williams, friend and advocate extraordinaire. His guardians- Francis Gomez and Joshua and Veronica Bargdill and his nieces and nephews through love. Thank you to those who were there to make Mike’s life worth a life to live each and every day. He was as lucky to have each and every one of you as we were to have known him. He is proceeded in death by his very best friend, Omar Droullard.
His Rosary will be prayed on July 9, 2024 at 10:00a.m with a funeral to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 10:30 am conducted by the Reverend Adam Keiter. Burial will proceed right after. In lieu of flowers, Mike would have appreciated a donation to Wichita Catholic Diocese Holy Family Camp. A celebration of life party will be planned at a later time for all his friends to make it.
