Melody Lynn Schmitz

Melody Lynn Schmitz, age 57, passed away February 23, 2024. Melody is survived by her husband Jason Schmitz of Newton, Kansas, daughters Stephanie Perkins, Tiffany Rouse of Newton, Kansas, son Justin Breitsprecker of Dubuque, Iowa, adopted mother Joann Ewing of Kansas City, Missouri, sisters Rose Foiles, Debra Buller, of Newton, Kansas, adopted sister Kim Blaco of Kansas City, Missouri, brother Ralph Palmer of Cassoday, Kansas, adopted brother Patrick Ewing of Belton, Missouri, 7 granddaughters, 1 grandson, several nieces, and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her mother, father, adopted father, brothers Billy Braught, Ray Braught, Teddy Stroer, adopted brother Todd Ewing and 1 granddaughter. Melody was born on July 22, 1966 in Eldorado, Kansas to parents Elizabeth Maxine Palmer and Calvin Zimmerman. She graduated from Raytown High School, Raytown Missouri in 1985 and moved back home to Kansas in 1987.

Melody married Jason Schmitz in 2002 in Newton, Kansas. They instantly became a family and he was devoted to her. Melody was a loving mother/wife. She was devoted to her family and animals. She was everyone’s favorite aunt to visit. She loved playing Bingo, singing Karaoke and going to Motorcycle Rallies. She was a member of ABATE of Kansas Motorcycle Organization. She loved life, being with her family and friends and had a unique laugh that would make everyone smile!! She loved fishing, camping, bonfires, and crafts.

A celebration of life/love will be held Saturday March 9, 2024 2:00 p.m. at Harvey County Park West Park Stone Shelters. Directions: From Highway 50 take Halstead Road North to North West 36^th Street, turn left on Northwest 36^th Street and travel about 3.5 miles. Cross bridge and turn left into West Park. Go about ½ mile and Stone Shelters will be on the East side by the river, (left side of road). .
