Maurice L. Regier, 71, of North Newton, died Friday (March 1, 2013) at this home.
He was born March 15, 1941 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Gustav H. and Linda Regier. His mother died shortly after Maurice was born. His dad later married Hilda A. Wiebe. Maurice graduated from Berean Academy at Elbing in 1959. He married Helga Schaefer on December 2, 1960 in Newton.
Maurice farmed South of Newton for several years. He had worked for the Hesston Corp. for a few years and the for the 15 years operated a lawn care business.
Maurice was a longtime member of the Newton Bible Church. He enjoyed singing in several groups in the area, including the Mennonite Men’s Chorus and “The Messiah” in Lindsborg.
Survivors include his wife Helga of the home; sons Myron & Stephanie Regier, Warren & Doris Regier all of Goessel; daughters Eileen & Greg Sutherland of Newton, Lisa & Jay Hultberg of Galva, Ks.; brothers Delbert & Viola Regier of Rock Hill, N.C., John & Barb Regier of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ken & Nancy Regier of Newton; Lynford & Sharon Regier of Quito, Equador; grandchildren Devin Sutherland, Dawn Nguyen, Amber Youngers, Olivia Regier, Matthew Regier, Blake Slife, Taylor Hultberg, Ali Hultberg and Jaycob Hultberg; and seven great grandchildren.
Maurice is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Herman Paul Regier and Gustav Bernhard Regier; and grandson Brett Slife
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday (March 6, 2013) at the Newton Bible Church. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 1pm til 9pm where the family will receive friends between 6 and 8pm.
A memorial has been established with the Newton Bible Church for the building or piano fund, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
