Mary Rodriguez

Mary Rodriguez, 77, died Monday (November 8, 2021) at NMC Health in Newton.

She was born on December 9, 1943 in Goessel, Kansas, the daughter of George and Martha Schmidt Janzen, Sr.  Mary’s mother died on August 12, 1946 and her father would later marry Agnes Funk. The family moved from Goessel to Hillsboro where Mary graduated from high school in 1962. She later attended Brown Mackey College in Salina.

Mary was united in marriage to Agustin Rodriguez, Jr. on February 17, 1968 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. For a short time they lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado while he was in the service, the rest of their time was spent living in Newton.

Mary was a bookkeeper, working for Faith & Life Mennonite Press and spent 20 years at Kidron Bethel along with working parttime as a bookkeeper for Heritage Furniture. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband Agustin of the home; one son Mike Rodriguez and wife Shiann of North Newton; three daughters Michelle Musgrove and husband Dustin of Haysville, Julia Mahan and husband Rickey of Newton, and Cindy Rodriguez and companion Phil Veach of Haysville; one brother Gerald Janzen of Moundridge; one step-sister Darlene McVey of Chicago, Illinois; eight grandchildren Jarrett Rodriguez, Gracie Rodriguez, Kalen Rodriguez, Brielle Rodriguez, Braelynn Musgrove, Bryden Musgrove, Nikki Roberts, and Ricky Mahan; and two great grandchildren Logan Heath-Mahan and Norrin Roberts.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; step-mother Agnes Janzen; brothers Ralph, Ernest and George, Jr. Janzen; and step-brother Leroy Funk.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M., Friday (Nov. 12th) with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M., Saturday (Nov. 13th) both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.

A memorial has been established with Caring Hands Humane Society, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
