Mary Higgins

Mary Elaine Higgins, 77, died Tuesday (March 9, 2021) at the Newton Medical Center.

She was born on February 2, 1944 in Newton, Ks., the daughter of Ervin B. and Agatha Friesen Goering. Mary was raised in the Moundridge area where she graduated from Moundridge High School.

She married Howard Eugene Higgins, Jr., on January 22, 1966 in Inman, Kansas. After being married they live in Newton until moving to Walton in the early 1970’s.

Through the years Mary had worked as a Phlebotomist at several area clinics, later retiring from Newton Medical Center.

She was a longtime member of the Walton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Howard of the home in Walton; daughters Cindy Simons and husband Brian of Walton and Michelle Martin and husband Gary of Wichita; brother Jim Goering of Newton; sister Velma Voth of Minneapolis, Ks.; and two granddaughters Cora Martin of Wichita and Kaitlyn Simons of Walton.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday (March 17, 2021) the Walton United Methodist Church. Those attending are required to follow all Covid-19 mandates including the wearing of a mask and social distancing.

A memorial has been established with the Parkinson Foundation, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
