Lucille J. Pankiewicz (91) of Newton, Kansas passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis in Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, Kansas. She was born to Frank and Anna Staggenborg on June 13, 1931 in Marysville, Kansas.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (1998); her two children, Alan (2017) and Cecilia (2013); her two brothers, Joe and Francis; her sister, Mary; and her parents, Frank and Anna.

She is survived by four of her children, David (Lisa) Pankiewicz, Theresa (Gary) Metz, Carol (Kendall) Barker, and Karen (Luke) Martin; her 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Lucille married Charles Pankiewicz on February 14, 1953 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. Lucille and Charles had six children and moved every couple of years for Charles’ career. In 1994, they settled in Newton, Kansas to retire and spend their golden years near several children and grandchildren.

She was an active and devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic church where she served as Eucharistic minister.

Throughout her lifetime she was dedicated to caring for others. Her careers consisted of being a homemaker, in-home daycare, and caring for the elderly. She loved cooking and hosting family dinners every Sunday. Her hobbies included baking, gardening, sewing, scrapbooking, collecting antiques, and spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 14, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton, Kansas.

Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Flowers and cards can be received at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home for Lucille’s funeral.

A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, contributions may be sent to the funeral home.
