Lou Gomez

Lou Gomez, Sr, 89, of Newton, passed away on the morning of April 1, 2014.

A Rosary service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Our Lady of Gaudalupe Catholic Church.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 4 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Juan Garza, officiating. 

 Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Lou Gomez was born to Antonia and Irene Gomez on January, 9, 1925.  He married Frances Nunez on June 19, 1948 in Newton at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.   He worked for Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1988.  He was a veteran of WWII, serving as part of the Army.  He was very involved with his church all his life and was a part of the Adoration Chapel.  He also volunteered at Northview Developmental Services and for the Special Olympics. A devoted husband and father, Lou cherished his time with family. Lou believed in helping everyone and shared his big heart with countless people.

 Lou is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tony, Greg and John Gomez, and his sister, Nancy Gomez Oropesa. 

Lou is survived by his wife, Frances Gomez, children, Lou Gomez Jr (Elizabeth), Ventura Porter (Warren), Gilbert Gomez, and Victoria Adame (Frank). His grandchildren include Kisha Slay (Eric), Chris Gomez, Matt Patton (Sierra), Nicole Pagoyo (Paa), Lina Adame,  Jeffrey Porter, Jennifer Porter, Andrea Porter, Sarah Porter, Scott Porter (Jennifer), and Emily Porter.  Great grandchildren include Hunter Slay, Chase Slay, Ryder Slay, Francesca Slay, and Maddox Kaawa.  Lou’s other family include brothers Ralph Gomez of Hutchinson, Maggie Gomez of Newton and sister, Julia Pena of Newton.

Memorials may be given to Our Lady Gaudalupe Catholic Church, Good Shephard Hospice or Kansas Christian Home.
