LeRoy Ashcraft

H. LeRoy Ashcraft, 87, of Newton, died Tuesday (April 15, 2014) at the Newton Presbyterian Manor. 

He was born on May 26, 1926 in Strong City, Ks., the son of Willard L. and Ruth Irene Orr Ashcraft. The family would later move to Newton where LeRoy graduated from Newton High School. LeRoy enlisted into the U.S. Navy on May 25, 1944 and was discharged on June 24, 1946. He married Clara May Cleaver on January 6, 1948 in Salina, Ks. They returned to Newton to reside. Clara died on February 13, 1989.

 LeRoy had worked at a yard engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad until retiring. He had also been a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

 Survivors include his sons Willard L. Ashcraft, II and his wife Marilyn of Newton; daughter Ruthe M. Ashcraft-Starlin of Omaha, Neb., brother Richard Ashcraft of Lawrence, Ks.; and two grandsons Jonathan L. Ashcraft and Samuel D. Ashcraft.

 LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and his siblings Glenn Ashcraft, Lt. Col. Claude Reed, Norma Banman and Carol Ashcraft.

 Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday (April 18, 2014) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory near Newton.

 Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 1pm til 8pm.

 A memorial has been established with the Newton Presbyterian Manor, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.

 Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
