Lavonne Jean Geer

Lavonne Jean Geer, age 87, of Newton, Kansas passed away October 26, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born in Faunsdale, Alabama on June 29, 1936 the daughter of Norman and Marjorie (Brown) Eicher.

When Lavonne was a young lady, she moved to Newton and rented a room from Mrs. Beckloff, whom she thought very highly of. Mrs. Beckloff introduced Lavonne to the First Baptist Church and she remained a member until her passing. She got a job at Hurst Egg Factory and that is where she met her husband, Jesse Lou Geer. They were married on January 1, 1960 in Newton, and were married until his passing on August 30, 1986. 

Lavonne enjoyed reading, shopping, and fixing up her home and working in the yard. She also enjoyed going to Druber’s and having coffee with her friends. Her family remembers her as a strong and independent woman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Marjorie; husband, Jesse Lou Geer; sister, Beth Ann Eicher, 5 years old; and brothers, Lawrence Eicher and  Morris Eicher.

Lavonne is survived by her son, Jim Geer of Newton, KS; sisters, Louise Koehn (Gene) of Burns, KS, Norma Smith (John) of Burns, KS; brothers, Alan Eicher (Iva) of Owasso, OK, Ervin Eicher (Vicki) of Oakley, KS, Jasper Eicher (Darla) of Newton, KS, and James Eicher of Newton, KS.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 1-4 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Monday, November 6, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Newton.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church and may be sent the funeral home.
