Lance Basil Budge, a complex and deeply loved individual, passed away on January 19, 2024. Born on April 21, 1948, Lance's life was marked by moments of both joy and challenge.
Lance is survived by his devoted children, Aaron Budge and Shana Carbajal and her husband Alex Carbajal. And by his loving grandchildren, AJ, Cammie, and Samuel. Lance's journey included struggles, but his love for his family remained unwavering. His life, like many others, had its hardships, yet Lance consistently revealed a heart full of love and goodness.
In addition to his immediate family, Lance is lovingly remembered by his siblings: sister Jill Budge Bowden, brother Neal, and brother Craig. He was a great brother, holding cherished memories with each of his siblings. He was preceded in death by his brother Marc, and his parents, father, James Robert Budge and mother, Priscilla Radke Budge.
Lance served in the Army National Guard, contributing to the defense of his country. Following his military service, Lance dedicated himself to his career, ultimately retiring from Valero in Texas. His hobbies included fishing, tinkering with vehicles, tending his yard, and observing hummingbirds at his feeder, among other things. He found joy in taking walks with his dogs and grandkids when he was able.
A true animal lover, Lance adored his dogs and cats throughout the years—they were cherished members of the family. His sense of humor, wit, intelligence, and love for word puzzles and trivia, especially his enthusiasm for watching Jeopardy, were just a few of the many things we loved about him.
Lance's warm smile and generous spirit will be deeply missed. A master at smoking meats, he created BBQ feasts that brought joy to his family. He established the tradition of celebrating his and his grandson Samuel's birthdays with a special event called "Sammy-Q." Lance's deviled eggs, a favorite of his grandson AJ, were a testament to his culinary talents as well.
We are grateful that Lance is now at peace, no longer suffering, and in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father. May his memory be a source of reflection, comfort, and joy for those who loved him.
A memorial service to celebrate Lance's life will be held on Thursday, February 8th, at 10:00 AM at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
