James E. Combs, Jr.

November 9, 1920 — July 22, 2012

James E. Combs, Jr., 91, gently left this earth to be with his heavenly father on the morning of July 22, 2012.

Jim was born to James and Alice Prior Combs on November 9, 1920 in Kansas City, Ks. He was an Eagle Scout and an Altar Server at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, graduating from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Ks., in 1938.

Jim married Miss Grace McCracken on July 25, 1940, they were married for 72 years.

During World War II, Jim was commissioned a 1st Lt., as an engineering officer in the Army Air Corp. He worked as a machinist for 35 years, then Jim owned his own machine shop for another 35 years.

Jim was a very sensitive and loving man, he will be sadly missed by many.

Survivors include his wife Grace and three children, James Combs, III and wife Melinda of Albany, Mo., Michael Combs and wife Cindy of Newton; Julie Mintner and husband Joe of Higginsville, Mo; sister-in-law Lorraine Combs; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a niece and three nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday (July 30, 2012) at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 2001 Windsor Drive, Newton.

The family will greet friends at the church on Monday, Noon until 1pm, and a reception will follow the funeral.

Interment will be at 3:30 P.M., at the Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick, Ks.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
