Guadalupe “Lupe” Martinez Sr., 84, passed away Saturday July 19, 2025 in his home in Newton Kansas surrounded by his family.
Lupe was born on May 28, 1941 in Marion, Kansas to Juan Devara Martinez and Josephine Morales. He was the 11th child of 13 siblings.
Lupe married Frances Gomez on November 26, 1966 in Newton, Kansas at Our Lady of Guadalupe. They moved to Chicago Illinois where they had 2 children, Guadalupe Junior and Lora. Returning back to Newton Kansas a few years later they had 2 more children, Lisa and Gregory.
Lupe worked at Hay & Forage in Hesston Kansas for many years, making his retirement from there. He also delivered the Wichita Eagle here in Newton for many years.
Many would say they would see he and his wife sitting on their porch or they were always doing yard work. He enjoyed keeping a sharp looking yard at his residence. He also enjoyed growing a garden. He grew many veggies but jalapenos and tomatoes were his favorite. He and his wife would grow an abundance of these and drive around delivering to friends and family. They never wanted the veggies to go to waste.
Lupe also had his own lawn work. He enjoyed mowing grass and doing lawn care for several people around town. He took his lawn work very serious and taught his grandkids never to walk on anyone's grass.
Lupe loved his family. He enjoyed when they would stop by and visit, to make sure if he needed anything. He took many road trips with them especially when they played sports.
He and Grandma would make sure they had everything they needed and they made sure they attended every game or tournament where ever they were playing. He loved joking with his grandkids and teaching them things he would be doing around the house.
Lupe is survived by his four children. His daughters Lora Martinez of Newton, Lisa Moreno of Newton and his sons Guadalupe Junior Martinez of Newton and Gregory Martinez of Kansas City, his sister Dorothea Pineda of Chicago Illinois. Eight grandkids, two great grandkids, and many nieces and nephews.
Lupe is proceeded in death by his wife Frances, who passed away earlier this year. His parents Juan and Josephine, and 11 of his siblings.
