Gerald “Chris” Christensen, age 92, passed away on April 16, 2023. Gerald was born in rural Beverly, Kansas to Robert and May Christensen on January 31, 1931.
He graduated from Beverly Rural High in 1949. He then attended the National Railroad School in Omaha, Nebraska. “GL” was married to Nancy Ruth Ayers on January 24, 1954. He served his country in the U.S. Army for 2 years, primarily in Japan. Gerald worked for the AT & SF railroad for 42 years as telegrapher/clerk. Upon retirement he kept very busy with woodworking, volunteering for the Sheriff’s Patrol, gardening and canning. He was active in the community and church as well
Gerald is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nancy and children, Geoffrey Christensen (Marcene Carstensen), Gina Christensen (Mitch Neuenschwander), Gera Regier (Steve), Jay Christensen (Amy Ludwa); grandchildren, Ryan Winsler (Nicole Stoecklein), Dustin Leite, and Sarah Tauiliili (Peivi); great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Hudson and Benjamin Tauiliili.
Gerald was full of joy and light and always enjoyed fun and laughter, He will be missed greatly.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 from 5-8 pm at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, KS. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023, 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 5356 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS, with Pastor Chad Langdon officiating. Burial will be a private family service preceding the funeral.
Memorials have been designated to Christ Lutheran Church-Stained Glass Window Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
