Georgene Ann Carstenson

October 17, 1945 — March 21, 2023

Georgene Ann (Olson) Carstenson was born to George and Laura (Bruggeman) on October 17, 1945 in McCook, Nebraska. She and her siblings spent their childhood in Leoville, Dresden and Oberlin, Kansas.

Georgene spent her life caring for the children of her community in her licensed daycare homes. She also worked as a daycare teacher, assistant director, and director at the Harvey County Childcare Association and Halstead Childcare Center. She retired in the late 90s to tend to her rapidly expanding family.

On March 21, 2023, she passed after 78 years of an amazing life. This included: 7 trips to Europe, countless backyard Easter Egg hunts, Christmas Eve dinners, and grandchildren’s performances. Georgene passed from complications of COPD (emphysema). She now joins her parents; elder brother and sister-in-law Johnny and Fronie; younger sister and bother-in-law Laurene and Don; and her sister-in-law Julie, who have gone before her. Those left to celebrate her life and legacy are her doting husband Lyle with whom she shared 57 years of marriage; her daughters Cathy (Kevin) and Amy (Dale); grandchildren Quin, Zachary (Kelsey), Nathan (Acacia), Emily (Andrew), Nick, Nakita, Jon (Raven), and Hannah, Allie Sue (Chris); siblings, Bernard and Jim (Daring) and 8 great-grandchildren.

Georgene’s notion of family extends beyond those related by biology or marriage. Those she counted among her chosen family include Patilynn, Roger, Andrea, Rich, Marissa, Lisa, and Lila. Her presence will be missed, and her legacy lives on in those she loved fiercely and dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023, 11:00 A.M. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.
