Esperanza "Hope" Sandoval

Esperanza “Hope” Sandoval, 92, died Friday (February 23, 2018) at the Greenhouse of Asbury Park in Newton.

She was born in Hutchinson, Ks., the daughter of Rosalio and Consuelo Herrera Marquez. Hope was raised in Hutchinson.

She married Billie Sifuentez Lujano on June 28, 1941 in Newton. They later divorced. She later married Robert Sandoval, Sr. on August 8, 1987 in Newton. He died February 19, 2007.

Hope has worked the Coleman Company in Wichita for over 25 years. She had also owned The Verrue Restaurant in Newton for a short time.

She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the church Altar Society and the Perpetual Adoration. Through the years Hope had been very active with the Mexican-American Softball Tournament and the 16^th of September Fiesta. She was very devoted to the Rosary.

Survivors include her son Louis W. Lujano, Sr. of Peoria, Az; daughter Mary Navarro of Newton; sister Marcelina Garcia of Chicago, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death her parents; husband Robert; sons Robert J. Lujano, Sr., Richard S. Lujano, Carlos Rosalio Lujano, William David Lujano; brother Charles Marquez; sisters Teresa Garnica and Lupe Mora.

The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M., Thursday (March 1, 2018) with the Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 A.M., Friday (March 2, 2018) both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

The casket will be open at the funeral home on Thursday between 1:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
