Earl James Decker

Earl James Decker of Newton, KS passed away on Wednesday, March 1st, 2023.  He was born to Harry Decker and Susie Smith Decker on August 29th, 1936, in Hillsboro, KS.

Earl graduated from Roxbury High School in 1954.  He helped on his father’s farm until 1960 when he moved to Newton, KS.  He worked construction until he became a self-employed finish carpenter up until his retirement. 

In 1965, Earl married Sharon Clark in Newton, KS.  They had two sons, Brendan, and Jarrod.

Earl was an avid Kansas City Royals and KU basketball fan. As a cancer survivor, Earl was very active with Relay for Life for a number of years.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Susie Decker and Stepmother, Verna Decker.  His siblings, Norma, John, Carolyn, and Merlin.

Earl is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Brendan Decker of Saint Joseph, MO; son, Jarrod Decker and fiancé, Andrea Wasinger of both Newton and Hutchinson, KS; sister, Jaraine Redger of Newton, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Restlawn Gardens of Memory. Memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Newton or left with the funeral home.
