Derek A. Gonzalez, age 24, was suddenly taken from this world on December 21, 2023. He had been residing in the home of his parents.
Derek was a beloved member of his family. Being described as a caring, loving and beautiful person. The guy who wanted to please everyone. A loyal friend, even if life caused a separation; Derek was the guy you could call anytime.
Derek had many loves in his life. First and foremost, was his love of Michigan Wolverines. Derek will be cheering them on from the other side as the Wolverines take on the Alabama Crimson Tide at the Rose Bowl, on New Year’s Day. Derek also loved shoes. He also had a big love for elephants, they were Derek’s favorite animal. Lastly, Derek had a great love for music. He collected and listened to vinyl albums. He really enjoyed classic rock. Pink Floyd being one of his favorite bands. Derek also loved rap. From old school to the new stuff, Derek couldn’t get enough.
When Derek was around 18 years old, he began to show signs of mental illness. Eventually receiving a diagnosis of Schizophrenia.
For several years Derek struggled and fought against this infliction. But in the end, the battle was lost and the fight ended. Maybe now, Derek will finally be able to enjoy the peace and quiet he so longed for in life.
