Carl Gus Sangals

Carl G Sangals, retired CSM (US Army Reserve) passed away on 03-10-15 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita KS.
He was born on May 3, 1930 In Moundridge KS to Gustav and Margaret (Winsinger) Sangals. He graduated from Newton High School in 1947 and he went to work as a carpenter for Walt Broadhagen Construction. He joined the US Army in 1951 where he earned the Korean Service Medal. Upon his discharge, he rejoined Broadhagen until 1971, when he took a position with the United States Army Reserve. He retired in July of 1993 as a Facilities Specialist for the Engineering Division of the 89th ARCOM.
Carl was very active in the US Army Reserves and retired as a Command Sergeant. Major and served with Generals Sutton and Shierke. He was active in the Newton Bowling Association, serving as secretary for many years. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Carl was very talented when it came to crafts or projects of any kind especially those involving painting or working with his Shop Smith.
Carl married Colletta Kenagy on December 6, 1953. They were married for over 56 years until her passing in February of 2010.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Margaret, brothers, Erwin (Dorothy) Sangals, William Sangals, and sister, Margaret (Gene) Miles
He is survived by his daughter Cindy (Brad) Seitz of Overland Park, KS and his son Craig (Kristin) Sangals of El Dorado, KS, His four grandchildren, Kyle Seitz, Katie Seitz, Zach Sangals, and Caden Sangals. He is also survived by his Brother-in-law Gary (Sharon) Kenagy of Topeka, KS and his Sister-in-law Norma (Jim) Fischer of Ft. Collins, CO and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday March 12, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, KS. Funeral will be Friday March 13, 2015 at 2 PM at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home with Denny Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Township cemetery in Moundridge KS with military honors.
