Bret Johnson, age 63, died Friday, October 14, 2022, at his home in Newton, Kansas. He was born December 15, 1958, in Ulysses, Kansas, the son of Donald Eugene and Shirley A. (Komma) Johnson.
Bret grew up in Ulysses and attended Ulysses schools. While living in Ulysses, he had worked as a printer for Don Waterman, the local newspaper, and for George Anderson at Anderson Graphics. Bret loved watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboy team, watching NASCAR, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, and loved listening to music. Bret never knew a stranger. He had friends and acquaintances all over the country.
Bret is survived by a young man he considered his grandson, Max Turner of Peabody, Kansas; sister, Therese Minks of Ulysses, Kansas; sister-in-law, Debbie Johnson of Shawnee, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Chad Minks and wife Ashley, Chris Minks and wife Bri, Amy Trotnic, and Eric Johnson; great-nieces and great-nephews, Cambri and Hudson Minks, Lukas, Josh and Kaezley Minks, Drake and Brycen Trotnic; and numerous other family members and friends.
Bret is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Shirley Johnson; and brother, Michael Johnson.
Memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Max Turner Education Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
