Barbara Dubois

Barbara Louise Prather DuBois, 96, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on June 28, 2013 at the Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, Kansas. She was born Nov. 8, 1916, the second of three girls, to John and Anna Prather. She graduated from Newton High School in 1935 and attended Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught for three years at Excelsior Grade School in Harvey County.

Barbara married Gail DuBois on July 11, 1937 at her sister’s home north of Newton. A life-long resident of the Newton area, Barbara was an exemplary homemaker, raised four sons and was active in many clubs and organizations as well as a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Newton.

She is survived by her four sons and their wives: Paul (Rojean), Glenn (Terresia) of Newton; Leo (Mona) of Sedgwick and LeRoy (Kathy) of Topeka. There are fourteen grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Gail, and her sisters, Velma Dreier and Lorene Eby.

Visitation will be July 2, 2013 at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton, from 1-9 pm. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The memorial service will be held on July 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Newton, Kansas.
