Avis Ayler Faulk

October 21, 1917 — May 24, 2011

Avis Ayler Faulk was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Avis passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011. She would be the first to say, "Don't be sad; it's just the next adventure!"

Born in Kansas and raised on a farm, Avis always sought to help others. An award winning Girl Scout troup leader and trainer, she sponsored the SRSU Wildnerness Society while serving the university as Acting Dean of Women. Upon, completion of her MLS from Emporia State in Kansas, she returned to serve as Resources Librarian at Sul Ross. Avis loved the outdoors and was a life long camper.

An acomplished musician, she sang with SRSU's Musical Majority, going on a USO tour to the Far East. She also played violin in the pit for the SRSU Summer Theatre musicals and recorder in the Alpine Community Band.

Avis could nail up a board, fry a chicken, grow dern near anything in what she called "a little patch of dirt" and look bandbox good in white gloves in Sunday.

She was preceded in death by her husband, JM Faulk. She is survived by her children Molly and Tony, a sister Virginia, and grandchildren, Meg, Travis and Brian, Great grandchildren Andrew, Emma, Xander and Sirena, many nieces and nephews and an untold number friends, young, old and inbetween.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. If you wish to do something for Avis or her family, please remember her with a donation to Sul Ross State University, Alpine, TX or Presbyterian Manors of Newton, KS or to a charity of your choice.
