Annie Troxel

Annie Martha Woffenden Troxel, 94, died Thursday (November 11, 2021) at the Newton Presbyterian Manor.

She was born on June 25, 1927 in Chester, Arkansas, the daughter of George Henry and Carrie Viola Sills Woffenden. Annie was the fifth child of eight. The family came to Newton on the train in 1937 when she was 10 years old. The family located in Walton where Annie attended school from the fourth grade through seventh grade, later moving to Newton. Annie graduated from Newton High School in 1946.

She married Clarence Troxel on December 31, 1950 in Newton. They lived in Moran, Kansas for a short time before returning to Newton in 1955.

Annie worked in local retail stores, Faye’s and Tarr’s Grocery along with Otasco and Graber’s Hardware.

She was a Boy Scout Den Mother and a longtime member of New Life Assembly of God Church where she taught Sunday School in the Toddler and Beginner Classes.

Survivors include her son Lenord Troxel and wife Julia of Belton, Tx.,; daughter Susan Stanford and husband Johnny of Newton; four grandchildren Jason Troxel and Deedra of Temple, Tx., Tori Harkins and husband Chris of Austin, Tx., Larry Humphrey of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and James Stanford of Newton; two great grandchildren Piper and Teagan Harkins of  Austin; along with several nieces and nephews.

Annie is preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence on March 8, 2021; four brothers William T. Woffenden, George Richard Woffenden, John L. Woffenden, Frank D. Woffenden; and three sisters Ethel A. Jagt, Thelma C. Chamberlain, and Mary Jane Boese.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday (November 15, 2021) at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Newton. Interment will be in the Restlawn Garden of Memories outside of Newton.

There will not be a viewing or visitation as the casket will remain closed.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Assoc., contributions may be sent to the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton, Ks.
