Anita Claudine (Johnson) Heckerman

February 3, 1950 — September 18, 2023

Anita Claudine (Johnson) Heckerman, returned to her Heavenly Father on September 18, 2023, after years of struggling with multiple illnesses. Her daughters were with her during her quick departure. She was born on February 3, 1950 in Winfield, KS to Charner and Mildred Dawson Johnson. Anita was raised in Mayfield, KS and later the family moved to Wellington, KS where she graduated high school. She returned to Wellington years later to raise her daughters, Amber and Autumn. Anita was a jack of many trades and a master at them all; cooking, sewing, quilting, embroidery, carpentry, flower arranging and event planning. Most of all she was a remarkable mom, an amazing Gran and Great Gran of three. Anita retired as a KTA toll collector in 2010. She moved to Newton, KS in 2001 to be near her daughters. She was a loyal spectator and fan of her grandchildren’s activities. 

Anita is survived by her daughters Amber and husband Marty; Autumn and husband Glen; brother Dennis Johnson and wife Penny. Four grandchildren: Macy (Bryce) Morgan; Sid (Khirra) Simmons; Israel Adams and Kalel Adams. Three great grands Silas, Maren and Tatum. She is also survived by 2 nephews Jeremiah Johnson, Lucas Johnson and 1 niece Stacey Scott.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 am, Saturday September 23, 2023 at Grace Community Church in Newton.
