Angela Sue (Goering) Miller, age 63, daughter of Leonard Lowell Goering and Imogene Helen (Ediger) Cole, passed away, January 17, 2024, at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita Kansas, following an extended illness. She was born in Evanston, Illinois, on May 4, 1960. She graduated from Moundridge (KS) High School, completed her bachelor’s degree at Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas, and studied Public History at Wichita State University. Angela lived in rural Newton, Kansas.
Angela was a beloved wife and mother, bright, funny, and always very engaging. She was fearless in her pursuit of new interests, projects, and opportunities. She worked at the Bethel College Library and later became the campus Coordinator of Residence Life. Her love for art and history led to work as a free-lance artist creating banners, paintings, and graphics for the General Conference Mennonite Church and as an illustrator of educational coloring books for Roots and Wings Publishing Co., Trinidad, CO.. She enjoyed museum work as a volunteer at the Kauffman Museum (Bethel College), and in positions with the Ulrich Museum of Art (Wichita State University), Wichita Historical Museum, and the Wichita Art Museum. She was also a consultant for the Moundridge (KS) Historical Association for their Cole House Museum project.
Angela’s greatest joys and motivation in life were centered around the love, care, and support of her daughter Bethany, who has Rett Syndrome. Angela’s compassion for those with disabilities led her to found and direct Bethany Support Services in Newton. For her, the business was a personal mission to provide clients the supports needed for meaningful interaction and engagement within their local communities. It prospered and grew for eight years. She sold the business to another provider following a sudden and unexpected decline in health. Angela continued to provide care and love for her daughter and family until her most recent hospitalization.
Angela was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother Johanna (Coleman) Goering. She is survived by her husband Bruce and daughter Bethany of the home, brothers Preston Goering (Deb) (Newton), David Goering (Portland, OR), and Jonathon Goering (Hiwot Zegeye) (Birmingham, AL), sisters Allyson (Cole) Maisel (Eric) (Wheaton, IL) and Rebekah (Goering) Mitsein (Sean) (Boston, MA), her step-father John H. Cole (Newton), and step-mother Jane Kurtz (Portland, OR).
A public memorial service for Angela is planned for 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton, Kansas.
Memorials may be made to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation.
